Who the heck is Jon Guy?

Jon Guy is an independent researcher and science communicator who writes about critical thinking, pseudoscience, logic, psychology, and related topics. He is the author of Think Straight: An Owner's Manual for the Mind, contributing author to Investigating Clinical Psychology: Pseudoscience, Fringe Science, and Controversies, a frequent guest writer for Critikid and Thinking is Power, and the host of The Curious Case of Science, a YouTube channel aimed at tackling contemporary issues in science and critical thinking.

Acclaim for Think Straight

"Guy’s text sketches out a practical and accessible program of skepticism. Mr. Guy has a solid mastery of the principles underlying critical thinking...Mr. Guy is building on the work of earlier science popularizers like Carl Sagan, and while Sagan does address psychology, Guy drills down far deeper into the psychological mechanisms than Sagan ever did. This is important because it prompts the reader to think about how the reader thinks, a metacognitive exercise that is crucial to the development of a critical, skeptical mindset."

"This book is a remarkable achievement, especially when one considers the circumstances under which it was written. Jon Guy’s enthusiasm for critical thinking shines through every page as does his eagerness to inspire that same enthusiasm in others... His book covers all of the major topics that one would expect to see in a book on critical thinking, the result of reading hundreds of books and literally thousands of papers dealing with philosophy, science, and scepticism while inside. It is written in a clear and accessible style and is full of real-world examples that readers can easily relate to."

“Think Straight goes right to the core of today's weakness in critical thinking skills. Jon Guy's engaging language and personal voice will appeal to readers who have been turned off by academic jargon. He offers accurate and insightful understanding of the flaws in the conspiracy thinking that infects so much of contemporary media.”

“As a Psychology professor, I have been teaching a course for 12 years titled: Critical Thinking about the Paranormal... Mr. Guy has done an excellent job pulling together material from a vast number of research studies, theories, and scholarly articles on the scientific approach to the study of the paranormal. By doing so, he has provided for the reader thorough and convincing evidence for the necessity of the application of the scientific method to claims of the paranormal.”

“In this era of ‘alternative facts,’ competing world views, and rampant conspiracy theories, have you ever heard a person say, in frustration, ‘I just don't know what to think!’ If you are that person, then this is the book for you. [Guy] has some words of wisdom for us all: Thinking is a skill, a skill that can be developed, perfected, and deployed as the most effective tool for living a happier and more fulfilling life.”
